WHY DID I WATCH THIS?
American Assassin
Beach Rats
A slow, but well acted movie that feels too forceful.
The Beguiled
Great tension until the last act, when it completely escapes the world it established.
Free Fire
Tries too hard to be quirky with a not great screenplay, but great performances somewhat make up for it.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer
Enjoyably weird until it begins to indulge too much in its oddity.
The Lovers
Cute performances, just didn't find anything to love about it.
Mudbound
Again another movie with strong performances, but weird directorial choices and mediocre storytelling ruin the movie.
Okja
Juggles too many tones unsuccessfully.
Hostiles
Annoyingly self-righteous and tone deaf.
Paint It Black
Slow, but doesn't do a lot at all with the quiet moments, which ends up being every scene.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Just, a mess.
